“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory... Put on your new nature and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.” Colossians 3:1-4, 10-11 NLT

For believers in Yeshua Christ, we depend on two things - the word of Elohim and the help of the Holy Spirit. When we relegate Christianity to set of rules and activities, we miss the amazing truths that transforms life through a renewed mind.

 

Our faith is based on what we believe and hope. As we study the word of Elohim God, we can either believe it or not. What we believe can either become our prison or our freedom. Our mindset can either become a transformative agent or a mind trap.

 

The book of Colossians was written by Apostle Paul to Christians in Colosse (in modern day Turkey). Paul addressed issues of false teaching which had infiltrated the Church - combining philosophy, Judaism and Christian ideas. What he taught are vital for our own mindset today. What we believe or disbelieve shapes our behaviour and approach to life.

 

Sometimes what we experience, what we are taught in school of the world and our intellect can come into conflict with the word of God. It is easy to say that we should just accept the word. This won’t have any effect if our mind is not in agreement. 

 

The good news about the wonderful grace of Elohim God should lead to a mindset of knowing and growing in knowledge of the Lord; honouring and pleasing Him. We have been rescued from the kingdom of darkness and been transferred into the Kingdom of Yeshua, who purchased our freedom by his death. Our sins are forgiven - wiped out. Our mindset should be that of a citizen of the Kingdom of Yeshua. 

 

We should not have the mindset of a sinner, of condemnation, bowed down in shame and guilt. We must understand and accept what Christ has done for us and our new identity, not what people say we are.

 

Yeshua Jesus Christ is the visible image of the Father. He came to us as God in the flesh. He is eternal, existed before and hold all creation together. Through him the Father created all things in the heavenly realms and on earth, even thrones, kingdoms, rulers and authorities of the seen and unseen world. Yeshua Jesus have dominion overall.

Our mindset is that Jesus is the fullness of God the Father. The only access and relationship with the Father. This mindset will prevent us from looking for other gods/alternatives to the Almighty.

Jesus was real on earth. He died physically to pay the price of our sins. We have been made holy, blameless and above reproach in his sight. If we continue in the faith!

My mindset is that there is no condemnation for me. My sins have been forgiven. My mindset is that of a new creature in Christ. My sinful nature is no more. I believe it. accept it. Sin has no power over me.

In Christ lived all the fullness of God in a human body. We are complete through our union with him who is the head over every ruler and authority. When we came to Christ, he performed a spiritual circumcision - cutting away our sinful nature. When we were baptised, we went through spiritual rebirth to a new life. We became alive in Christ. Every charge against us was taken away and nailed to the cross. Hallelujah! (Colossians 2:13-14).

 

Jesus defeated all spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross. He died and he rose again. Our mindset is that no spiritual power, rules, principalities nor authorities have any power over us.

 

Christ is the reality of spiritual rules and regulations (Colossians 2:16-23). Rules that make activities a means of relationship with the Father is no longer valid. Christ is the only means of relationship with the Father. Self-denial, worship of angels, rules of the world, severe bodily discipline - all the things that do not take away evil desires are of no effect. 

Our mindset is Christ our reality, not rules and regulation. Our life is hidden in Christ in God the Father.

 

Our eternal destination is sure, so heaven should fill our minds and mindset. As we have accepted Christ Jesus as our Lord, we must continue to follow him. Our roots must grow down into him and our lives must be built on him. We must be mindful of human thinking and spiritual powers of this world. We must set our sights and mind on the realities of heaven where Christ sits in the place of honour at God’s right hand. We must constantly think about the things of heaven. 

Our mindset must be about heaven not the things of earth. We shall share in Christ’s glory when he is revealed to the whole word.

 

I believe it. My mind is transformed by it. How about you?

It’s simple to do this; believe in your heart that Jesus is the son of God, raised from the dead. Accept him as your Lord and Saviour by confessing him with your mouth. “For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved (Romans 10:9,10 NLT)

 

And start that wonderful journey with Him immediately. I encourage you to search for a bible teaching fellowship near you for support and your spiritual growth.

Almighty Father, thank You for the gift of my salvation and the Holy Spirit. In the mighty name of Yeshua Christ Jesus. I pray that I may grow in the  complete knowledge of Your will my Father. Grant me spiritual wisdom and understanding that the way I live will always honour and be pleasing to you Lord. May my life produce every kind of good fruit as I know You better and better. May I be filled with spiritual strength, endurance and patience, joy, always thankful in all things.

 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:1-2 NKJV

There are other lessons to learn about beginnings.

Beginning is a process not a destination. It took Elohim God a six-day process for the beginning of creation. But the beginning has to end so that it becomes the norm.

 

Do not expect a beginning to bring expected outcome immediately, there might be many beginnings. God created man to live forever, but then disobedience happened. God had to put in place another beginning, this time through His Son Jesus Christ.

 

Your beginning can start anytime. It not limited to the 1st of January, as defined by the Gregorian calendar reform of 1582 and adopted by the British in 1752.

 

I have experienced many beginning in my life. When I became a mother in 1992 was a beginning for me – a beautiful journey of motherhood. So many instances of beginning that led to re-shaping. And of course, the best beginning of all, my relationship with Yeshua.

 

I have learnt that we cannot be beginning the same things over and over again. Every time we sin, we begin again. We can relate with that right? When you offend loved ones and you ask for forgiveness. You promised never to do it again, asked for a second chance and begin again.

 

Sometimes you don’t want to begin again but you want to continue. I feel that is God’s approach to me. Yep I stumble or fall, more like stumble, I feel God saying when I ask for forgiveness, okay my girl, I forgive you, sin no more, let’s keep going.

 

I definitely do not want to go back to the beginning. I want to keep going because I have come a long way to Christ Jesus. Going back is like Proverb 26:11 “As a dog returns to his own vomit, So, a fool repeats his folly.” No one wants to be a fool.

 

If you have already given your life to Christ, you have had your beginning with him. Yes, you may stumble, don’t look back just keep going. Keep going, keep your eyes on Yeshua and keep going. You have come this far, keep going.

 

If you are yet to submit to the Lord (James 4:7). Let today be your beginning, with Yeshua. A beautiful relationship that will transform your life.

 

Are you tired of the old and current, you want the new? Jesus is the Saviour. It is a beginning that is better experienced than described. The story of creation in Genesis 1 and 2 tells us about the amazing love of God for us His creation. He first created everything man needed then he created man to enjoy his beginning.

 

The only thing that will stop you from entering your beginning with Elohim God is you.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Genesis‬ ‭1:1-2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

The beginning means the start of something. The start of something means the end of something else. The new year is a beginning. 2020 is gone. 2021 has started.

A beginning usually leads to some outcomes:

• Creation

• Re-shaping

• Transformation

In the beginning, Elohim God created heaven and earth. We can learn a lot about beginnings from the story of the creation of the world. In the beginning the Spirit of God was there as creation started. God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, decided it was time to do something about this massive void of water and darkness.

The beginning led to creation. There was only darkness, a void full of water before.

Elohim God created the magnificent world out of water.  I love reading about creation. It helps me to soak into my mindset the creative power of God in me, because I was created in His image. No one  can take that ability away from us because we are created in God’s image.

This beginning provides the opportunity to create new things.

Another beginning leads to a re-shaping of the old. The story of the father of faith -Abraham. We read his story from Gen 11 from 27,  further expatiated in Acts 7, in that fantastic sermon by Stephen. Abraham was told by God to leave his native land and sojourn to a land, yet unknown that would be the inheritance of his descendants. Abraham’s whole life was re-shaped from that beginning. His name was changed and he was given the circumcision covenant.

In a beginning that is about re-shaping, all weights that besets would have to be discarded.

The third outcome of beginning could be transformation. This is the beginning of our relationship with Christ Jesus. We have a beginning in Christ. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” II Corinthians‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭NKJV. We become a completely transformed person in Christ Jesus. I call it the one-hundred-and-eighty-degree transformation.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

There are other lessons to learn about beginnings.

Wordfortheweek Week 43 #Unknown

‘…I even found an altar with this inscription; TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you.’ Acts 17:23 NKJV

Every humanity knows God intrinsically, because He put in them a void that would make them search for Him. Many find Him, many find something else to fill that void and many are still searching.

Paul told the Athenians, that the unknown God they worship is the Almighty God.

Human beings see things around us that has nothing to do with any man; the air we breathe, day-time and night time rolling for centuries, nature in its entirety. And no one could explain but man put an explanation to things according to the limitation of his abilities. 

Creation could only be explained as the Big Bang and evolution of mammal. Life could only be explained with the mushy organs and red liquid in man, but what brings all those things to life?

When man acknowledges and worship the True and Living God, he starts relating with the most powerful being, unknown yet known, invisible yet visible, whose power is seen in nature around us.

We seek to fill the void inside of us with things and people. Yet, there is still that void. 

If you desire to know this unknown God - Elohim, that void will no longer exist, because it is in Him that we live and move and have our being.

If there is a void inside you that you are desperately seeking to fill, call out to the only True God, who has revealed His name as I AM, Jehovah, Yahweh. Ask Him in sincerity to reveal Himself to you. And He will. Get a bible in the version that you can understand and study. Find a bible believing fellowship near you and connect to grow.

Most importantly, have FAITH.

Almighty Father, thank You for the gift of my salvation. Fill the void in my heart with all of You Lord. In you I live and move and have my being. May I not exchange your truth for lie, or worship your creation instead of You, the Creator. I pray in the name of Yeshua Jesus, amen.

Wordfortheweek Week 42 #LeanIn

Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. I Peter 5:7 NKJV

The year 2020 will be an unforgettable one for all the adults that lived through it. The COVID-19 global pandemic brought an health crisis that even the strongest in faith kept social distancing. 

It was in this year that both old and young, rich and poor, the royal and the common man, were all levelled up by the pandemic. 

A virus that did not discriminate.

The crisis has taught us that life is such a fragile thing, and there is limit to the predictability of the future. We are living in the period of uncertainties. The world as we know it is changing or has even changed for many. Our lives, ways of living, working and relating will never be exactly the same.

 

It is a new norm that we do not know. In the midst of it all, we are seeking for some normality and stability. Normal means there is constancy. Stability means there is an anchor grounding it.

This is the time to lean into the One whose promises are constant and whose strength is an anchor, the Christ Yeshua Jesus.

Yeshua Jesus invites all those who are heavy laden to cast their cares on Him. He promised to give them rest because He cares.

This is a time to lean-in to Yeshua. You do not need to carry your burden by yourself, lean in-to Him.

When you need a friend, lean-in.

When you are worried, lean-in.

When life throws you a curve lean-in.

In the good times and bad lean-in.

Elohim God is strong enough to carry you.

Why don’t you off-load on Him today. He is waiting.

#Wordfortheweek Week 34 #Example

“Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.”  I Corinthians 11:1 NKJV

I have come to believe that each decade of life has its own unique lessons. The decade of my life that I would love to have the opportunity to live again is my twenties.

Our twenties represent a period of young adulthood, many enjoying physically and financially independence from their parents.  

It’s also a period when many wants to take decisions and not be ‘directed’ or ‘instructed’ by anyone especially an elder.

As a parent, we have life experiences that our child doesn’t. It is difficult to keep quiet when you see your children making wrong decisions and choices. Yet, being directive with a young adult would not lead to the reaction you want.

At a certain stage of life, influencing other people is not commanding or demanding but showing by example. Your life should reflect what is right and in line with the word of Elohim God.

At a stage in our children’s life, teaching them is more effective by our own lifestyle. Actions speaks louder than words.

Apostle Paul knew the place of instructions and the impact of being a living example. He was very confident to encourage Timothy to follow him because his life was a reflection of Yeshua. Paul was an example worth emulating. He could say, ‘do as I say and do’.

How about you saints of the Almighty God, is your life a reflection of the faith that you professed? The best evangelism is our life.

In every area of your life - parenthood, workplace, community, friendship, let it be the best reflection of Christ.
