The Power in the Blood

Human beings can’t survive without blood. Blood is vital for the body to function, without which the human organs would not get the oxygen and nutrient they need to survive.

It is not surprising then that God declared that the life of the body is in its blood (Leviticus 17:11). Blood is life; blood must be shed in exchange for life. The sacrifice for sin is the shedding of blood; Jesus shed his blood to atone for our sin.

Derek Prince in his book 'The Blood of Jesus' noted that Jesus shed his blood in seven ways representing the Old Testament law of sprinkling the animal blood seven times in front of the atonement cover.

1.     Sweat drops of blood in the garden of Gethsemane (Luke 22:44)
2.     Struck on the face with fists and rods (Math 26: 63-7)
3.     Hair of His beard was pulled out (Isaiah 50:5-6)
4.     Scourged on His back (Is 53:5/ Math 27:26)
5.     The crown of thorns pressed unto His scalp (Math 27:29)
6.     Crucified, nails on His hands and feet (Math 27:35)
7.     Side pierced by the Spear (John 19:34)

Every time I read about the death of Jesus, it brings a lump to my throat and tear to my eyes; such suffering for humanity. Yet, I am humbled and grateful that the shedding of the precious blood of Jesus is for our benefit;

- Our redemption: God is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins (Eph 1:7)

- Our justification: ‘And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ... ' (Romans 5:9)

- Our sanctification: The will of God was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time (Hebrews 10:10)

- Our continual cleansing from sin: ‘But if we are living in the light as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other and the blood of Jesus, his Son cleanses (present tense) us from all sin (1 John 1:7)

-  Our access into God’s immediate presence:  ‘...And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most High Place because of the blood of Jesus’ (Hebrews 10:19)

- Our intercessor: The blood of Jesus speaks from heaven and calls out for mercy on our behalf (Hebrews 12:22-24)

- Our hope of eternal Life: Eternal life is available for us because Jesus gave His life and shed His blood for us (John 6: 53-58).

There is so much power in the blood of Jesus, appropriate it daily over your life.
