WordfortheWeek 2021 Week 9 The Helper (2)

“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—.” John14:16 NKJV

I have learnt that the work of the Holy Spirit in you is a relationship thing. The work of the Holy Spirit in you is a partnership. Over the years I have learnt to recognise the voice of the Holy Spirit and thus be led by it.  The voice of the Holy Spirit is opposite to mine. It is that voice that will say show love to someone who is being hurtful to you. It is that voice that will tell you the solution to a difficult and complex problem and you know your limited knowledge could not have known this.

I have also learnt to recognise the voice of the Holy Spirit by the fruit of the Spirit. Anything that is of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV) is the voice of the Holy Spirit. This is the way and the approach of the Holy Spirit.

I have learnt that to walk in the Spirit means not defiling your body, the temple of the Holy Spirit. There is purity in sex inside of a legal or customary marital structure.

I have learnt and still learning to live in the Spirit by being conscious and mindful of the Holy Spirit in me. He is my helper, so I ask Him for help in all things and at all times.

I have learnt and still learning to depend on the Holy Spirit in every area of my life.  With my children - His wisdom and guidance on how to navigate parenthood. In my work - how to build relationships and excel.

I take the Holy Spirit as my senior partner of life. I have learnt and still learning to relate with Him as if He is physically beside me. I have experienced interventions in situations through wisdom from Him.

The Holy Spirit helps to transform our life...if we are willing and obedient.

There are times when I want to react to certain situations, but I don’t. There is no character trait that cannot be transformed by the Holy Spirit, if we are willing and obedient.

The work of the Holy Spirit in us is according to the purpose of Elohim God for our individual lives. The power of the Holy Spirit will be manifested through you in line with the purpose and plan of Elohim, not your own flesh induced desires. Simon the sorcerer saw the miracles, signs and wonders by the Holy Spirit and wanted to buy it with money. Hey, do not even try it. Anyone that tells you to pay to receive the Holy Spirit is a representative of Satan. Flee and cry to the Lord yourself.

Jesus Christ has given us a mandate to take the gospel to the four corners of the world. We are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. To fulfil this mandate, we need the Holy Spirit.

The gospel of Christ is power unto salvation. By the Holy Spirit we can fulfil this mandate as Jesus did; “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”

Acts 10:38 NKJV. The works he did, greater shall we do because he goes to the Father (John 14:12).

Without the Holy Spirit, we can do nothing. But with Him, we can do the works that Christ did and even greater works according to the purpose of Elohim for our life.

But to get the gift of the Holy Spirit, you must first have a personal relationship with Yeshua Christ Jesus. And He has promised to send you the Helper. It’s never too late to accept Jesus into your heart as Lord and Saviour.

It’s simple to do this; believe in your heart that Jesus is the Son of God, raised from the dead and confess with your mouth that He is Lord. “For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved (Romans 10:9,10 NLT).

Start that wonderful journey with Him immediately.

WordfortheWeek 2021 Week 8 The Helper (1)

“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—.” John14:16 NKJV

In the Old Testament we read that the Holy Spirit was given to specific people at specific times for the specific work they were given by Elohim; Noah, Moses, the seventy elders, Bezalel, David are examples. It was by the power of the Holy Spirit that these people were able to do extraordinary work.

Jesus told his disciples to stay in Jerusalem until they receive the Holy Spirit and power (Acts 1:4). Despite having walked and worked with Christ for three years, their transformation happened after this Pentecost experience.

As believers we also need the baptism and power of the Holy Spirit - to live and be sons and ambassadors of Christ. We are powerless without the Holy Spirit of Elohim.

From creation, through the process to reconcile man back to his God, we see the evidence of the power of the Holy Spirit. On the day of the Pentecost, the Disciples’ lives were transformed. They could do things supernaturally - spoke in different languages, preached about Jesus boldly, courageously and without fear. And of course, they performed supernatural miracles.

As a new believer I read these accounts and hunger for the mighty manifestation of the power of the Holy Spirit, for my redemptive purpose and calling. Not because I want to do what other people have done or are doing, but because I want to fulfil my own calling with power. And that power comes by the Holy Spirit of God.

When people say there is no Holy Spirit, that is not true, unless you do not believe that the Bible is the inspired word of Elohim by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was promised to us believers by Christ. Some of the role of the Holy Spirit is explained from the Scriptures, as  an Advocate (John 16:7-8), Revealer of truth (John 16:13-14), the Helper (Romans 8:26), the Empowerer (Acts 1:8).

People look for miracles, signs and wonder as a sign of the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. But Spirit of Elohim God is more than that. It is the grace to do things that are impossible in the natural strength or ability. The power given to believers is for a purpose - to be witnesses of Christ. The power is not for marketing and merchandising.

We have to be careful that we do not put Elohim in a box when it comes to how a believer receives the Holy Spirit. The Bible gives us examples of baptism of the Holy Spirit by laying of hands and during prayer. Laying of hands is common but not the only one.

The Holy Spirit is promised to us as a gift. “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” Luke 11:13 KJV. Pray for it yourself. Ask Yeshua, he promised it. Yearn and pray for it.

If you believe in your heart that Yeshua Christ Jesus is the Son of God and accept him as your Lord and Saviour, this gift is yours.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is indescribable. Honestly. My spiritual life was transformed - the yearning to know the Lord, the yearning to be in fellowship with Elohim through prayer, the acute sensitivity of my conscience, the new abilities - wisdom, knowledge, understanding to fulfil my calling in Christ. You have to experience it to understand it.

All the seven aspects of the Spirit come alive in you with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of the LORD, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD (Isaiah 11:1-5 NKJV).

Apostle Paul encouraged us to walk in the Spirit, be led by the Spirit and to live in the Spirit. When we do this, we will be guided by the Helper and able to transform our character with evidence of the fruit of the Spirit. You are transformed inside out. Your redemptive gifts become activated by the baptism of the Holy Spirit. You will start having this deep desire to do the work of the Kingdom.

How do we walk, live and be led by the Holy Spirit?

To be continued…

WordfortheWeek 2021 Week 7 Equation of Life for Good Success (2)

copyright aakintoye

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you[c] shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8 NKJV

Joshua was a man who by all accounts had great success in his life. Elohim was in every detail of Joshua’s life. He gave Joshua his life purpose – to lead the Israelites from the wilderness into the promise land. The Lord made Joshua a great leader in the eyes of all the Israelites, and for the rest of his life they revered him as much as they had revered Moses (Joshua 4:14 NLT).

What lessons can we learn from the life of Joshua?

There are several lessons we can take from the life of Joshua.

First, we must be focused on Elohim’s purpose for our life and not be distracted by another person’s life. Joshua was very clear his purpose was to lead the Israelites into the promised land by going to war with the Canaanites. He could have been intimidated about stepping into Moses’ shoe at first, but the Lord encouraged him, and he focused on his own mission.

The second lesson is that to be successful in fulfilling our purpose we need Elohim in it. We must keep reminding ourself that our life’s work is the Lord’s and success belongs to Him.

The third lesson is that when we encounter failure, we must go back and seek the Lord because we would have mis-stepped somewhere. There is no failure with Elohim. We fail when we walk in our own strength.

The fourth lesson, as you become successful, be very mindful of pride. Joshua never took the glory but gave Elohim all the honour. Pride is an easy place to step into. We have to understand that if God was in it at the beginning, the minute we take Him out of the equation pride takes root in our heart. With pride, the work becomes about you instead of Elohim. You start looking for ways to do things your way instead of God’s way.

I would like to share some principles to guide us and help us to keep Elohim as the coefficient in every detail of our life:

Studying to seek wisdom from the Bible

Partnership with the Holy Spirit. He will guide you and lead you into all truth.

Keep your mind and eyes on Jesus, always.

Seek to know and understanding your purpose in life; the what and why.

Be ready to walk away from things that would not glorify and bring glory to     God’s name.

It is great to have God in every area of our life. Not just as blessing giver but as the shaper of our life. When His presence is there, there is rest. Elohim has promised that His Presence will go with us, and He will give us rest (Exodus 33:14 NKJV)

Are you a Christian and you are struggling to see Elohim God in some or all areas of your life? It’s never too late to go back to the beginning. Spend time with the Holy Spirit to hear, see and know the what and the why - to understand what you are doing and why you are doing it.  Then rewrite the equation of your life with God as coefficient of every variable. It is a journey, but you have the super helper - the Holy Spirit if you keep your eyes on Jesus.

And for this, you need a personal relationship with Jesus, or you will be doing it the way of the world.

And start that wonderful journey with Him immediately.

WordfortheWeek 2021 Week 6 Equation of Life for Good Success (1)

copyright aakintoye

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you[c] shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8 NKJV

If you were to have an equation for the good success of your life, what would it be? Would Elohim God feature in it and in what way?

Life(God+family+career+friend+xx) = good success

God(family+career+friends+xx) = good success

————————————-

               Life

God(family)+God(career)+God(friends)+God(xx) = good success

Life has so many variables because things change. But Elohim God never changes.  As we navigate the variables of life, it is easy to forget Elohim God or our Him last. Doing things by ourself becomes normal, until we hit a brick wall or get into trouble.

The story of Joshua is an insightful case study of a man who made his God the coefficient for every variable of his life. Elohim encouraged Joshua many times to be strong and courageous for the work that he had been purposed for.

Joshua was from the tribe of Ephraim. He was born in Egypt and was a young man at the time of the exodus. He would have experienced the evidence of God’s power over Egypt. In the wilderness, he became Moses’ assistant (Ex 33:11) and one of his choice men. And he began to be skilled in warfare – he led the fight with the Amalekites (Ex 17:9). He also began to be trained in military strategy – he was one of the twelve spies sent to Canaan. We read how much he trusted in Elohim. He and Caleb tried to encourage the people to trust in the Lord to give them victory over the Canaanites saying: “The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. If the LORD delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows with milk and honey.’ Only do not rebel against the LORD, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the LORD is with us. Do not fear them.”’ Numbers 14:6-9 NKJV.

His trust in the God of Israel became his salvation into the promised land. He was chosen by Elohim God as Moses' successor, a big shoe to fill. But Elohim God did mighty things through him - Jordan parted, Jericho’s wall crumbled, the Sun and the Moon stood still until the battle was won, military victory one after the other.

Elohim was in every detail of Joshua’s life. He gave Joshua his life purpose – to lead the Israelites from the wilderness into the promise land. And also, to have great success.

Elohim was the director, He told Joshua what, when and how. The two times when Joshua left out Elohim led to issues. Joshua made assumptions about the presence of Elohim for the battle of Ai and was defeated in a humiliating way. The second time was accepting the Gibeonites as travellers from a far foreign land instead of one of the enemies to be defeated. Both times he did not first seek the Lord’s counsel. But Joshua learnt his lesson very quickly and the Lord granted him great success. The Lord made Joshua a great leader in the eyes of all the Israelites, and for the rest of his life they revered him as much as they had revered Moses (Joshua 4:14 NLT).

What lessons can we learn from the life of Joshua?

To be continued…

Have a wonderful week ahead.
