WordfortheWeek 2021 Week 8 The Helper (1)

“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—.” John14:16 NKJV

In the Old Testament we read that the Holy Spirit was given to specific people at specific times for the specific work they were given by Elohim; Noah, Moses, the seventy elders, Bezalel, David are examples. It was by the power of the Holy Spirit that these people were able to do extraordinary work.

Jesus told his disciples to stay in Jerusalem until they receive the Holy Spirit and power (Acts 1:4). Despite having walked and worked with Christ for three years, their transformation happened after this Pentecost experience.

As believers we also need the baptism and power of the Holy Spirit - to live and be sons and ambassadors of Christ. We are powerless without the Holy Spirit of Elohim.

From creation, through the process to reconcile man back to his God, we see the evidence of the power of the Holy Spirit. On the day of the Pentecost, the Disciples’ lives were transformed. They could do things supernaturally - spoke in different languages, preached about Jesus boldly, courageously and without fear. And of course, they performed supernatural miracles.

As a new believer I read these accounts and hunger for the mighty manifestation of the power of the Holy Spirit, for my redemptive purpose and calling. Not because I want to do what other people have done or are doing, but because I want to fulfil my own calling with power. And that power comes by the Holy Spirit of God.

When people say there is no Holy Spirit, that is not true, unless you do not believe that the Bible is the inspired word of Elohim by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was promised to us believers by Christ. Some of the role of the Holy Spirit is explained from the Scriptures, as  an Advocate (John 16:7-8), Revealer of truth (John 16:13-14), the Helper (Romans 8:26), the Empowerer (Acts 1:8).

People look for miracles, signs and wonder as a sign of the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. But Spirit of Elohim God is more than that. It is the grace to do things that are impossible in the natural strength or ability. The power given to believers is for a purpose - to be witnesses of Christ. The power is not for marketing and merchandising.

We have to be careful that we do not put Elohim in a box when it comes to how a believer receives the Holy Spirit. The Bible gives us examples of baptism of the Holy Spirit by laying of hands and during prayer. Laying of hands is common but not the only one.

The Holy Spirit is promised to us as a gift. “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” Luke 11:13 KJV. Pray for it yourself. Ask Yeshua, he promised it. Yearn and pray for it.

If you believe in your heart that Yeshua Christ Jesus is the Son of God and accept him as your Lord and Saviour, this gift is yours.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is indescribable. Honestly. My spiritual life was transformed - the yearning to know the Lord, the yearning to be in fellowship with Elohim through prayer, the acute sensitivity of my conscience, the new abilities - wisdom, knowledge, understanding to fulfil my calling in Christ. You have to experience it to understand it.

All the seven aspects of the Spirit come alive in you with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of the LORD, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD (Isaiah 11:1-5 NKJV).

Apostle Paul encouraged us to walk in the Spirit, be led by the Spirit and to live in the Spirit. When we do this, we will be guided by the Helper and able to transform our character with evidence of the fruit of the Spirit. You are transformed inside out. Your redemptive gifts become activated by the baptism of the Holy Spirit. You will start having this deep desire to do the work of the Kingdom.

How do we walk, live and be led by the Holy Spirit?

To be continued…

#Prayerfortheweek

Almighty Father, thank You for the gift of my salvation and the Holy Spirit. Give me the grace to walk in the Spirit, be led by the Spirit and to live in the Spirit. May the power and the fruit of the Holy Spirit be manifested in my life for the glory of Your Holy Name in Christ Jesus I pray. Amen.
