WordfortheWeek 2021 Week 15 Faith Crisis

On the way, Jesus told them, “Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, ‘God will strike[e] the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
32 But after I have been raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee and meet you there.” 33 Peter declared, “Even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert you.” 34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.” 35 “No!” Peter insisted. “Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!” And all the other disciples vowed the same. Matthew 26: 31-35 NLT

Over the course of my Christian journey there has been moments of - what I call faith crisis.

Times when I have questions more than answers. Times when I wonder what I would do in some situations and circumstances. Times when I wonder if my faith was even up to the size of a mustard seed.

Recently I was watching a documentary about Evangelist Billy Graham. I learnt how he had a faith crisis in his early thirties. He was discouraged and had questions. He realised that his faith was in the head and not the heart. So, he fell on his knees and made a life changing decision that led to the salvation of millions.

Reading this story greatly encouraged me. Many ministers of the gospel will never acknowledge their faith crisis until things fall apart. We preach it but inside is a raging crisis of faith.

We know Peter did deny Jesus, not once, not twice but three times. The bible said he cried but he did not go back to correct his denial. I’m sure many of us have been there, times when we do deny Jesus - be it keeping quiet when we should have spoken up, hiding our faith because of our friends, colleagues or what society will say.

Ministers of Yeshua have a challenge. We are meant to share the good news and build up faith. Yet many are going through faith crisis themselves. Ministers avoid sharing their own crisis of faith. It only comes to light in a huge scandal - sexual scandal, suicide, mental health, burn-out, divorce, the like.

Billy Graham acknowledged there were questions he could not answer. But he will have faith in the word of God. When we go through crisis or pain - a loved one dying especially children, we ask tough question; why Lord, because these children had no sin.

When the saints die while doing the work of God we ask why Lord. Some things in the bible are sometimes very hard to comprehend or even accept with our human intellect. Our brain and mindset are limited to our brain and mindset.

I have wondered who is God? What does He look like? What if after all, I die, and it is all nothing? You know what I have come to realise and accept, it is all by faith – the evidence of things not seen (or known, questions unanswered) and assurance of things hoped for (eternity as planned in the beginning).

God is Spirit. He sent his son in the physical to make things real to us. God reveals what we need and leave the rest so that we can seek Him and trust Him.

Nobody knows it all. Nobody knows God totally. Revelation of God requires a relationship with Him. The more we grow deeper in our knowledge of Him, the more He reveals to us, as a trusted son and friend.

Faith is exactly as it is faith. It requires belief and acceptance that the Holy Scripture is the inspired word of Elohim. Faith requires that we believe and trust in the Holy Spirit, our helper. We must treat Him as a close friend. I deliberately see Him in every details of my life. Billy Graham said: “Father, I am going to accept this as Thy Word—by faith! I’m going to allow faith to go beyond my intellectual questions and doubts, and I will believe this to be Your inspired Word!”

It is a decision you have to make, to believe or to doubt.

I have decided to accept the word of God in the Holy Scriptures as the word of God.

I have decided to live by faith in Yeshua Jesus even when it seems impossible.

I have decided no more doubts. No more faith crisis or crisis of faith. So, help me God.

How about you?

Are you still searching to fill that void my friend? You have heard about Jesus, but you are sceptical? Unsure? Why not open your heart to know Him today. Tomorrow may be too late.

It’s simple to do this; believe in your heart that Jesus is the son of God, raised from the dead and confess with your mouth that He is Lord. And start that wonderful journey with Him immediately. I encourage you to search for a bible teaching fellowship near you for support a d your spiritual growth.

WordfortheWeek 2021 Week 14 Who is Jesus to you? Part 3

“When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 16:13-17 NKJV

Who is Jesus to you?

The Revealer of the Kingdom of God.  Yeshua performed many healings and miracles, the gospels are filled with many lives transformed by him. His works were a witness of who he is and what he came to do.

When we step back from the theology of his life, we see that Yeshua came not only to be propitiation for us but to give us revelation about the Kingdom of God, bringing the spiritual to the physical. So that we may choose right; life rather than death.

Yeshua made me understand within my limited earthly brain what life in the kingdom of God is like.

Who is Yeshua to you?

The word of life.

A major part of Yeshua’s ministry was his teaching. He taught life. Life from the power of sin. His teaching was completely contrary to the world.

He taught not about the consequence of sin but the root of sin. Adultery starts in the heart. Murder starts in the heart. Peace than conflict. Love than hatred. Forgiveness not malice. Giving more than receiving. Gentleness not aggression. Hope than despair. Truth not lies. Eternal treasure not earthly ones.  He taught wisdom that is from heaven not from the world.

Yeshua, the word of God is the word of life and living. The word that transforms life. Just studying and doing his teachings - example in Matthew 5, 6, 7 will transform your life and relationships

Who is Yeshua to you?

Our knowledge of Yeshua is both physical and spiritual. We learn about him from his earthly life. But we know him from a spiritual understanding - by the Holy Spirit and through faith. We also need an experiential knowledge. Not the one after the fact but one where you see and acknowledge him in your life experiences, even when it is not obvious.

Our knowledge of him will help us see him in our breathe, see him in our waking up, see him in every detail of our life. Then he becomes integrated in us at a deeper level of knowledge.

Many of us stay at the head knowledge of Yeshua Jesus. As such it is easy for us to be shaken by our circumstances, because our faith is not rooted deeply in who Yeshua Jesus is. We must be curious and search the Holy Scriptures by the power of the Holy Spirit. Who knows what life transforming nuggets you will find?

We need to also meditate constantly on who he is and who he is to us.

Are you still searching to fill that void my friend? You have heard about Yeshua Jesus but you are sceptical? Unsure? Why not open your heart to know Him today. He is the Son of The Creator God. He is the Saviour of the world, reconciling man back to his creator and the way to the eternal life that was ordained at creation.

He is inviting you into this marvellous relationship with him today. He is at the door of your heart, knocking and waiting for you to open it, that he may come in and enter a life-giving relationship with you. Today. Tomorrow may be too late.

It’s simple to do this; believe in your heart that Jesus is the son of God, raised from the dead and confess with your mouth that He is Lord. And start that wonderful journey with Him immediately. I encourage you to search for a bible teaching fellowship near you for support and your spiritual growth.

WordfortheWeek 2021 Week 13 Who is Jesus to you? Part 2

Jesus is a name many people are familiar with, either as a believer or not. We read his story in the Holy Scriptures, the Bible and other books. We watched his story told and retold in films and movies. We listened to teachings, sermons about Him.

We are only able to understand the divine Jesus from the experience of the earthly Jesus and the revelation given to us by the Holy Spirit.

Who is Jesus to you?

He is the Son of God the Father. He was at the creation of the earth. He came to fulfil the reconciliation of man back to His God. He sacrificed his earthly life, was resurrected by the Holy Spirit on the third day, and he commissioned his disciples to take the good news of His sacrificial work to the ends of the earth, so that all those who believe by faith would have a relationship with God and have the assurance of eternal life, as was originally intended by Him in the beginning.

Who is Jesus to you?

The Son of Yahweh. He was with Yahweh from the beginning. He was in Heaven with God and then He came to earth, in human form

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John‬ ‭1:14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

His birth was never seen before neither since then. He was conceived of a virgin by the Holy Spirit. This of course is mind blowing. We know the natural order of things, seed of man and the egg of a woman.

Jesus was the revelation of Yahweh, here on earth. He declared Yahweh to us. He taught about Yahweh, the Father. He taught about himself - who he is, why he came to the earth and what the kingdom of Yahweh is like. He revealed our God to us and explained the way back to God. “No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.” John‬ ‭1:18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Jesus himself spoke a lot about His Father, especially in the gospel of John. He made us understand that He came from the Father. He came to the earth to fulfil the work of His Father.

Who is Jesus to you?

WordfortheWeek Week 12 Who is Jesus to me? Part 1

“When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.” Matthew‬ ‭16:13-17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

My knowledge of Christ started from a religious perspective, then a head knowledge to a place of experience - still after the fact, for example praying to get a job, got it and then thanking Yeshua for making it happen.

There was something missing - a deep personal knowledge that comes from relationship. It is a knowledge that is grounded, rooted and cemented in understanding who he is.

Many people get to know Christ from an experience - loss, health issues, or one need or the other. Then they see him for what he can do. And as a result they get to know him as a healer, provider and so forth.

It’s quite interesting that Jesus first asked his disciples who other people said
he was. Then he asked them ‘Who do you say I am?”
This meant, it was not just about what other people said about him, but what they thought.

I was born into a religious family but I made the decision and chose to follow Yeshua as an adult. My knowledge of Yeshua was based on what I heard (faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God and testimonies).  It was about other people’s perspectives. Even as I read about him in the bible, it was still about what other people said and what he said about himself.

Over the years, I realised how my faith really was from a head perspective not heart revelation. I realised that  there was a gap between the head and the heart knowledge.

It is having the heart understanding that truly strengthens faith and deepens trust in Yeshua. Because we know who he truly is, not from what other people say but the revelation in our heart.

And Jesus said to Peter. No flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. Isn’t that illuminating. We can not know who Yeshua is - at a personal level without that revelation from Yahweh, God the Father.

As a believer who is Jesus to you?
