#Wordfortheweek 2019 Week 6 #Self-Assessment

“But let a man examine himself. For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.” I Corinthians‬ ‭11:28, 31‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The above statement was said by Paul in the context of eating the Lord's Supper unworthily. The consequences of which were weakness, sickness and even death.  By doing a critical self- assessment before eating it, we would be able to see where we need to repent and ask for forgiveness. This attitude is also relevant for our walk with God and relationship with people - doing a regular stock take of our character, attitudes and works against the standards God has set in His word.

The reality is, if you don't assess yourself there are many who will do it for you, uninvited. Some will do it with the right heart but many will do it to pull you down and destroy you. People's lives have been shattered, confidence battered and reputation destroyed because of wrong judgement.

Self-assessment is not self-judgement. The latter results in negative feelings like anxiety, anger or depression. Whereas self-assessment is looking at oneself in order to assess ones ability, actions and performance; understanding yourself and using this knowledge for self-enhancement.
It is useful to take stock of where you are against where you are going - what you have achieved against your goals; your manifested character against God's standard. It is not about self-patting but self-awareness, continuously checking that you are still on the right path; proactively taking corrective action rather than waiting for mistakes to happen. It is not that mistake would never happen but understanding your-self and being deliberate about your actions based on the word of God will help you to avoid making too many mistakes in life.

Self-assessment helps to keep you humble, knowing you are not perfect but a human being with flaws as well as strengths. A humble heart will see the gap between his human self and the perfection of Jesus, and will be like Paul “I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.” Philippians‬ ‭3:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

A person that puts himself under objective self-assessment will be able to take corrective action before it is too late. There would be little else for others to judge that you are not already aware of.

#Prayerfortheweek
Almighty Father, thank You for the gift of my life and salvation. Give me the grace to always examine myself against Your words and standards. May I not fall short of Your glory in any area of my life. In the name of Yeshua Christ Jesus. Amen

I pray this inspires you to be more and do more for Yeshua Ha Mashiach (Jesus Christ). Spend this week to meditate on the passage and take relevant step to live out your faith.
