WordfortheWeek 2021 Week 11 The power of the Mind

“...but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2 NKJV.

It is only through a renewed mind that we know the perfect will of God. Our mind is important for the knowledge of Elohim. A believer who truly wants this transformation must understand how the mind works and take control of it.

The mind is a fertile ground. The Holy Scriptures teaches us that as a man thinks in his heart so is he (Proverbs 23:7). What if man continually thinks he is good, kind, joyful, healthy, all the positive things. He could then start being those things and the world would be a better place.

Norman Vincent Peale, in his book; The Power of Positive Thinking, talks about the science of faith. I love that. Science is built on testing and refining and practicing techniques till you get it right. What about living out our faith and practising faith till it transforms you?

The mind is the element in an individual that feels, perceives, thinks, wills, and reasons. It enables a person to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, reason and to feel. It is the faculty of our consciousness and thought. The mind is intellectual, rational, can be unemotional, differentiates right or wrong. Physically the mind is in the brain.

Our actions are a direct result of our thoughts. The Holy Scriptures teaches us that sin starts in our mind. You think it, you dwell on it, you take action.

When you dwell on something, it starts controlling your feeling. We must sieve and filter what goes into our mind. Clear it out of all the garbage from the world around us. But do not leave it empty, fill it up with what is true, and honourable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8).

We can use meditation to clear and focus the mind. It is a skill to focus the mind on a thought or object. It is also biblical. The Holy Scriptures encourage meditating on the word of God day and night. Just imagine, focusing on a scripture for five, ten, fifteen minutes regularly. This is one of the most challenging things to do because the mind has a mind of its own. It wanders off by itself before you know it. Meditation is a skill to be developed.

Find scriptures that you can focus on. Learn the art of meditation

Our mind is full of many things; our experiences, information we have taken in, perceptions through our eyes, hearing, touching and tasting; our own lusts etc. We were conformed by standards set by the world, things done by the world, success or failure as defined by the world, power by the world. It was about this world not the Kingdom of God because our understanding had been darkened.

But we have the light now... the light of Jesus Christ. The veil has been lifted by the gospel of truth. But we must continually renew our mind - take off and take out everything the world has deposited in it and replace with Kingdom of God.

Transformation starts with the renewal of our mind – our thoughts, out thinking process. Focus your mind on Christ. Focus on the word of Christ in you. Focus your mind on the heavenly goal. Focus your mind on heavenly things.

We must take charge of our mind and not leave it to the mercies of our sinful nature. Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. (Romans 8:5-6 NLT).

It is only a relationship with Jesus that can transform your life when He is in your heart. He is at the door of your mind, knocking and waiting for you to let him in.

Will you?
