 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV

 

Sometimes studying the word of Elohim God is challenging. If you are like me, currently balancing full-time work, with study and various ministries, it can be near to impossible to do it on a daily basis. Nevertheless, I know that the word of Elohim God is life, it is impossible to survive without it. That is why it is important to encourage ourselves in daily study.

 

I have learnt that you cannot mandate a particular approach to studying the word of God. We are individuals, shaped, fashioned, put together and gifted differently. We learn differently. We read differently. We assimilate differently. You could learn but you cannot imitate someone else to study the word.

 

I would like to share some of the principles that have helped me over the years.

• The word – holy scriptures should be studied day by day, regularly and consistently. Structure is good but consistently is better. Even if you are only able to study a few passages in a day, it is better than nothing at all. Study the word daily, like a medicine to cure your illness, that if you don’t take it you are putting your health at risk.

• It is important to study and meditate not just read. Read to learn, absorb and retain. Read to activate the life in the word, quicken the spirit of God in you and transform your life. “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8 NKJV. 

• In studying the word of God, we must focus on the core things – the content not the periphery. The intent is not to cram and regurgitate the book, chapter and verse. Jesus did not use book, chapter and verse. Neither did the Apostles. Read in chunks that helps you to retain not recite verbatim.

• Study with friends in small group where you able to ask question, explore and dig for nuggets. Bible study should not be an opportunity for preaching sermon but to dig deep. When people cannot ask, discuss or even debate the study passage it is not bible study.

• Don’t guilt read. Studying the word is for your benefit. No one else. Don’t condemn or guilt trip yourself if you can’t recite. Just study, meditate and have faith that the word is in you. Trust me, when you need it, it will come out. Remember that is the work of the Holy Spirit to bring to your remembrance the word that is in you. If it’s not in you there is nothing to remember.

• Do not take lightly the word of God. Wisdom, secrets to success, wealth, life are in your word. Love the word with every fibre of your being. “How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Psalms 119:103 NKJV.

#Wordfortheweek 2019 Week 5 #Choices

“For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.” Ephesians‬ ‭5:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God created man without sin in the beginning, He created everything that man needed to live on earth. And He also gave man free-will to make his choices.

As believers under grace, we still have free-will to make choices - how we live, what we do, what we say, how we think and so forth.

Grace gives us access into the Kingdom of God and enables us to live the Kingdom way here on earth. By our free-will, we comply with the principles and standards of the Kingdom, It is not forced on us even by grace.

Many wait for ‘grace’ to make those choices for them, and then use ‘grace’ as excuse for their actions. Grace of God does not excuse sin. Grace of God enables you to live without sin. You make the decision not to sin, grace will enable you not to sin.

You decide. Your choice.

Even if you are born-again, for this we know that no fornicator, unclean (indecent, immoral) person, nor covetous (greedy) man, who is an idolater (other things first in your life than God), has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Elohim God.

What choices are you making with the grace of God? This week, be mindful and conscious about the decisions and choices you make - are they a reflection of the Kingdom?

Almighty Father, thank You for giving me the gift of free-will. Give me the grace to choose a holy and righteous life, serving You all the days of my life. May my life be a reflection of Your Kingdom standard through Yeshua Christ Jesus. Amen

#WordforToday 10 April 2018 Too spiritual?

The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Psalm 37:23 NKJV

I am always surprised when those who profess to be Christian chastised you for being 'too spiritual'. I wonder what that looks like. 

Oxford definition of spiritual is relating to or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things. As Christians, our relationship with Elohim is through our spirit because Elohim is Spirit and those who worship Him must do so in spirit and truth. Being spiritual, to me is thus relating through our human spirit which is connected with the Almighty.

Being spiritual is not just any spirituality - as there are many such which is not of the true God Elohim. Being spiritual for a Christian is about being led by the Holy Spirit not your flesh.

With Elohim you are either for Him or not; in or out; black or white; hot or cold. There is no middle way.

For a people set apart, led by the Holy Spirit, being spiritual is business as usual. We are meant to see everything in this world through spiritual lens not our flesh. There is danger in compartmentalizing God in your life - putting Him in the Sunday box; the problem scenario; the convenient times and not in every detail of our life.

The Word of Elohim says He delights in every detail of our life; every mi-nute detail. So why would we limit His presence to certain areas or times? Are we telling Him not to bother because we can handle things on our own.

Of course spiritual things manifest in the physical. We have to do physical acts being led by the Holy Spirit. Our victory and success in life as a child of God is dependent on our relationship with God.

I would rather be over-spiritual (if there is any such thing) than un-spiritual as a professed child of the Almighty Jehovah.

Remember your faith is spiritual. The love of God is spiritual. The grace of God is spiritual. And God is Spirit. Those who worship Him will do so in spirit and truth (John 4:24). Not in flesh.

Next time you want to accuse someone of being too spiritual, pause and think like Jesus.

Give me abundance grace to walk in the Spirit, that I may not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another. May I be led by Your Spirit for I am not under the law but Your grace. May my life manifest the fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. In the name of Yeshua Christ Jesus. Amen.

Spiritual maturity insights from Luke chapter 19 verses 1 - 9

Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. Now behold, there  was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. This man had material wealth. He was at the top of his profession - not just an ordinary tax collector but a chief tax collector.

And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. Despite his wealth, his position he knew there was something missing in his life. He would have heard about Jesus - how he was changing lives; the blind seeing, the lame walking, how mute spoke with understanding, demons cast out, even sins forgiven. He wanted to physically see this Jesus but he was limited, by his stature with the throng of people around Jesus. How many of us want to see Jesus but are limited by our circumstances, situation, location - natural or self-made. How we react is dependent on how desperate we are. And Zaccheus was a desperate man. I like him. He did not use his position or wealth - by holding a feast and inviting  Jesus to dinner. What did he do?

So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Jesus, for He was going to pass that way. The rich man ran as fast as his short legs could carry him, undignified and without care of how it looks. He saw a tree and he climbed it. Surely not a sight to behold for someone rich with an important position in the society. But he didn't care. He had a mission to see Jesus. Oh the joy of seeing Jesus. He did not mind what people would say. He wanted to see Jesus. How passionate are you about seeing Jesus. Is your position or  wealth preventing you from doing whatever it takes to see Him?

And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”  Zacchaeus

got more than he expected. He just wanted a sight but he got full attention and a visitation. Glory Hallelujah. Jesus sees our heart. How desperate is your heart for Him? Is it enough to make Him stop and visit with you? I can imagine Zacchaeus' joy. He would have laid out the  best dishes, cooked the fattest of lamb, the most expensive wine - after all he was loaded.

So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully. But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.”  Thank goodness, Jesus came for us sinners. He came to seek us and save us.

Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.” 
This verse says a lot about the character of this man. He had compassion. He was a man of integrity. He gave to the poor makes four-fold restitution even before his encounter with Jesus. His heart and character were in line with Kingdom standard. He was also a humble man - it takes humility to make restitution in my opinion. He could boldly challenged those that called him a sinner. I wonder how many of them could say the same like him.

No wonder Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham;  for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

This story inspired me to check my heart, the work of my hand, the depth of my determination to see Jesus; not letting any limitation in my life be an hindrance to running the race and seeing Jesus. I am encouraged that Jesus came to save me and through Him become a son of the Father.

Almighty Father, Help me to check my heart, the work of my hand, that I may not be found wanting in Your Kingdom. Help me not to let any limitation in my life be an hindrance to running the race and seeing Jesus. Let my enemy not find anything in my life that will bring reproach to Your holy name. In the name of Jesus I have prayed Amen

Pressing On

“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me...I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:12, 14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Christ laid hold of salvation for us. The upward call of God is a relationship with Him, restoring that which was lost in the garden of Eden.

You have to press on, growing in maturity, being more and more Christlike to make it to Heaven. The way, the right, the access has already been cleared by the finished work on the Cross of Calvary.

It's an upward call. Looking unto Heaven and things of the Kingdom. Not a world call - looking at the here and now. But an upward call, being mindful of the things of the Spirit and of the Kingdom of God.

 We forget what we have done or attained in the past, but look forward to those things ahead. Our holiness yesterday can not prevent us from falling into error tomorrow. We must not boast of our righteousness of today but press on to that of tomorrow. 

If you did not sin yesterday, glory. Forget yesterday. Focus on not committing sin today. Continue to press forward towards the goal. You can do it through a life sold out to Jesus.

Anxious for Nothing

“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:4, 6-7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Life can throw us some hard punches even as a son of Elohim. I have learnt that truly trusting in my God, requires a deliberateness about trusting Him. As long as you walk in Christ, it becomes easier to rejoice in Him always. When I realized my life was a gift from Him, I got to that place where in everything by prayer and supplication, I make my request to Him. I trust in His perfect will for my life. No worries.

Peace as a result of material things or people around us is fleeting. But the peace in our soul when we know who is in charge in our life is priceless. A peace that is not dependent on our circumstances but on faith in Jesus. It takes putting Jesus first in every area of my life.

How about you? Are you still carrying the load of life on your back? Aren't you tired yet? Come to Jesus all you that are heavy laden and He will give you rest.

Soar like an Eagle

“So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the LORD has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.” And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭16:2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Isn't it interesting that when we want to do something we know is not right, we conveniently blame God for our problems. To justify her actions, Sarah told Abram God has prevented her from having children. It was thereby justifiable to seek an alternative. Despite God's promise to Abram he accepted. For a man who was quick to make sacrifices there was none recorded that he did between the ages of 85 and 99 years. God himself was quiet. I wonder why? Lack of trust in the word of God leads to a barrier in our relationship with Him.

Waiting might be difficult, but going out of the will of God will bring difficulties into your life.

Are you about to give up in God's promise concerning your situation. Don't! He is never late. Taking that step out of faith will destroy many lives and generations to come.

Those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength. Or those who waits on the Lord shall fly with wings like an eagle.

#Lifelessons Grow Up!

A matured person knows what to do and is not afraid to take (tough) decisions to get things done. A matured person takes responsibilities for their decisions and actions irrespective of the consequences. Whenever you look for someone else to blame for your mess, you are demonstrating childishness. 

As a child, you get things done for you, decisions made for you - it was someone else's responsibility to feed, clothe and provide for you. Life was all about your own desires. You cry when things didn't go your way. You sulked in self misery. It was all me...me...me...

A child that refuses to grow becomes stunted - mentally, physically and emotionally, an abnormality. There is a saying that a fool at 40 will be a fool forever. 

How long have you been a Christian? How has your life been transformed by the word of God? Seek to increase in wisdom, knowledge and understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Grow up!

“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”

Getting rid of pests in a new house

I woke up this morning with the words; pests, termites, new house on my mind and I remembered immediately, the lessons I learnt from the book #EnemyAccessDenied by @JohnBevere.

In the book John Bevere gave an analogy of a new house; every where is clean but there were some cracks hidden behind the painted walls which contained termites; if the house was not fumigated before the owners move it, the termites would continue to eat at the walls of the house, creating cracks and before they know it the whole house would be infested.

When I read the book, the analogy had stayed with me ever since. When you become born again, you are a new creature - like the new house. However, there might be some spiritual strongholds that you need to deal with so that it does not open the door of sins/stagnation/bondage into your lives again.

Many born again Christians struggle with sin, some are still in bondage in one area of their lives or the other, be it lust, anger, pride, fear whatever. Some might be like me, with a tangled life borne out of being a descendant of an 'Ifa' (Yoruba spiritual divinity) man and growing up in an environment that was not completely dedicated to the One and Only God, Jehovah.

When I re-dedicated my life to Jesus, I had to 'fumigate' my body and soul with what you would call deliverance prayer. Although I was born again and I know the power in the blood of Jesus but I needed to destroy and halt all the 'spiritual' acts and deposits in my body and life as a result of the generational idolatry worship and acts.

Like with fumigating a house, you need special fumigants and experts to carry out the process; if not you will use the wrong pesticides and it would not work; if an untrained person does it, he/she might end up risking his/her health.

The process also uses specific prayers with authority. Every time Jesus cast out demonic spirits He rebukes and commands them to get out! 'Be quiet! Come out of the man.' Mark 1:25

This is a process that must be done by a spiritually matured person, one who is spiritually fortified with prayers and fasting; 'However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting' Mathew 17:21. I was not yet spiritually matured to do it myself or it would have been a case of the seven sons of Sceva '' Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?'' Acts 19:15.

Whether you believe in deliverance prayers or not, I learnt an important lesson in the analogy. I was blessed by having Spiritually matured Christian in my life when I gave my life once again to Jesus. They were able to immediately diagnosed the first thing that needed to happen for me to become a new creature in Christ and get my tangled life untangled (I will share some of my testimonies in future blogs). If I had not done it, I would have been too spiritually immature to target my prayers at the root of my problems... and they would have continued to be problems that prevents the blessings of the LORD to manifest in my life.  I would have been focusing on the consequences not the root causes.

How about you? Are you living a quality life or you are not seeing progress in your life even as a child of God? You need to look into your family root/history and get a spiritually matured christian to pray the deliverance prayer with you. In the mighty name of Jesus, the name that is above ll names, every knee shall bow, every demonic spirit operating in your life SHALL GET OUT never to return in Jesus name.

If only I could briddle my tongue

In my journey into spiritual maturity, I have been blessed by many sermons on the power of the tongue. I have also noted in my life that the more I grow in faith, the less I engage in conversations that do not lift people up. I still feel though, that sometimes I talk too much!

A while ago, I was reading a book by #DrDavidYonggiCho titled ‘Ministering Hope for 50 Years’ (I would recommend this for all spiritual leaders – amazing testimonies of God’s unfailing support when He has given you work to do).

In the book, Dr Cho related a conversation he had with a renowned neurosurgeon; this man told him that research have found that the speech area nerve controls all other nerves in the brain. Basically when you speak, you send a command to other nerves and they then activate it. As an example, if you say; ‘ I'm gradually getting weaker’, other nerves receive the message from the speech nerve and obey it – telling others to ‘lets get weak, we need to get weak.’ If you say, ‘I am healthy’, the message gets transmitted and process the command.

Of course what this neurosurgeon found out from research is not new; it had already been said thousands of years ago by the Master Creator (James 3:1-6). In fact we are told in verse 2; ‘….for if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.’ And ….’those who control their tongue will have long life’, (Proverbs 13:3).

As believers, we understand the power of confession – it activates and deepens our faith. Isn’t God wonderful? He has put in us, the design of our organs to work with our faith to bring into reality what we confess.

We use our tongue to decree positively and negatively; to bless and curse. We can use the power of the tongue for good or for evil, to bless each other and to turn around bad situations in life.

Let’s be quick to bless and slow to curse. It can be disheartening to read what believers’ write on our social media platforms. Most times people are quick to curse leaders – ‘….those who have been made in the image of God,’ (James 3:9). When I read such, I ask myself; do you curse the person or the spirit behind the person’s act? Should we appropriate the power of our tongue to rebuke evil spirits that enables a person to live an ungodly, immoral and corrupt life? How do we, as children of light, use our power of the tongue without committing sin ourselves? We must remember it is okay to be angry but we must not sin in our anger. When a child does something really stupid, you don’t tell that child, ‘You stupid child’ rather you tell they child what s/he did was stupid. The power of the tongue!

Let the Holy Spirit guide what we say in all things. A quiet person is not a fool, those who are wise follow the leading of the Spirit; in what to say, when to say and how to say.

Are you struggling with taming your tongue? Consciously pause and think about what you want to say, why you must say it and the best way of saying it. What is the intention behind your words? Pray and confess the following;

Almighty God, thank you for the gift of the tongue; I thank you that I’m able to talk, I’m able to use my tongue to praise you and testify of your goodness. Give me the grace to think before I talk. Let the Holy Spirit direct my speech to the glory of your name.

I confess that my tongue will be a channel of blessing and a vessel unto honour.  I appropriate my authority in Jesus over all sinful speech in the name of Jesus. Amen

Selfish Ambition

 Have you ever met someone, and one of the things that crosses your mind immediately is how this person can help you….. contribute to your business…..open doors for you…..

Yup, been there and done that. Many of us have as well and still do. When you meet someone, we think immediately, ‘How can this person be a channel of blessing to me.' The new member that just joins the Church is assessed for financial status;  the person you just met is assessed for what they do, who they know, their financial status – generally what do they have that can be of benefit to me.

It’s all about me – what I can get from this person/relationship. It’s rarely about what I can contribute into this person’s life; how can I be a blessing in their life. Yes, God uses people to bless us but this is not an excuse to deliberately assess people for what and how they can be a blessing to you. That is selfish ambition.

As I continue on the journey into spiritual maturity, I have had to deal aggressively with this attitude in myself. I had to transform my thinking with the help of the Holy Spirit to always think; ‘How can I be a blessing to this person,’ instead of the other way round.

 I use the word ‘aggressively,’ because I have come to understand that as long as we are in this earthly flesh, our sinful nature will continually try ( can only try because it no longer has authority over us) to rear it’s ugly head and you need to eliminate it with aggression. A soft approach would only lead to you giving in.

One of the results of giving in to our sinful nature is selfish ambition; ‘When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear…..selfish ambition’ (Galatians 5:19-20 NLT). And it is certain that, ‘anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.’ (vs. 21)

Apostle Paul was talking to the ‘born again’ Christians in Galatia. Even after being born again it is still possible to miss the Kingdom of God! My friends, all evidence of the sinful nature must be dealt with aggressively.

Thanks be to God that we have the Holy Spirit in us to guide our lives. You still have to make the choice though to, ‘…let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.’ (Galatians 5:16 NLT)

 Are you struggling with your sinful nature, renew your commitment to Jesus today and let the Holy Spirit guide every area of your life. Pray the following prayer and make the bold confession below;

Almighty God, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide and direct my life. Give me the grace to say NO to all sinful desires and YES to the direction and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Let the fruit of the Spirit be evidenced in all areas of my life; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness gentleness and self control.

I confess that Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of my sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there (Galatians 5:24); I appropriate my authority in Jesus over all sinful desires in the name of Jesus. Amen

Compromise or uncompromising?

As a young believer, I desperately wanted to grow spiritually. I yearned to know God than only be taught about Him by other people. I did not want to be like a distant cousin of the family, who depended on the sons/daughters of the house (pastors) to know God. Then I remembered that I am also a daughter of the house by adoption through Jesus. So I started on a quest; a journey into spiritual maturity.

Like with any journey you embark on, you meet many challenges on the way; some to stop you, redirect you or push you along your way. One challenge that I had to overcome was the spirit of compromise.

We live in a world where political correctness is the order of day; it is not about godly laws and values but about secularity (state of being separate from religion). How do you as a believer navigate through all these, especially in the market place?

When I started writing on leadership, I felt torn between compromising God centred principles with secularised principles. One of the (christian) leadership guru of our time has churned out leadership books made to suit the world. I have been challenged with not putting 'God' in my leadership writing if I want to attract a lot of people to buy or read the book. I have been tempted with advice and suggestions on how to develop godly leaders without quoting the bible.

In the workplace, fellow believers advice you to keep 'low' about your beliefs. I currently work in an organisation that embraces all faith - there is a dedicated prayer room to use if you so desire-, something for which I am ever so thankful to God for.

On my journey to spiritual maturity, I had to make a choice and I decided that there will be no compromise in whatever work God has put in my hand. I will continue to write on God centred leadership principles, which is targeted at believers to empower us to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. I will evaluate my speech and actions against the Word of God not what is trending in the world today. I am either for God or against Him; there is no middle option. Thank God for 'human right'. It is my human right and I am choosing to exercise my faith.

What about you? Have you compromised your faith because of your work? getting that contract? being accepted? making friends? selling more books? speaking at fortune 500 companies? Do you take out the God in the God principles that you teach?

How far are you willing to compromise your faith in Jesus and at what cost? Remember God is not mocked.

I am learning that spiritual maturity comes at a price.
