#WordforToday 4th January 2018 - The sower

Wow!  It’s already day 4 of the new year. Time flies and wait for no man. Let us maximise each second and waste it not.

I am currently studying the Gospel according to St Mark. In chapter 4, I got stuck with interest on the parable of the sower. As usual Jesus was teaching his disciples about the Kingdom of God. Rather than the soil it was the sower that caught my attention.

The sower of the seed (the word) is you and me, sent forth to ‘go ye and preach the good news of Jesus’. A command by our Lord Jesus and a mandate for our earthly living.

Anyway, the sower goes forth planting the seed. There were four types of soil (heart of mankind) that received the word leading to four different types of reaction and outcome. What was illuminating for me was that on a mathematical ratio only 25% of the seed actually germinated, grew and brought forth fruit. Many will hear the good news but only a quarter will become fruitful.

There is work for the sower - one must do four times the work to get a quarter return.

I was pondering if the sower should first seek the ‘good soil’ before sowing the seed. No. The sower’s responsibility is to sow the seed. As Apostle Paul said one sows, another waters but it is the Almighty that gives the increase.

When we go out for evangelism, it can be discouraging when no-one accepts the good news. But it is exciting when one seed fall on the good soil and it is heard, accepted and start bearing fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.

Every Christian is and must be a sower of the seed (word of God). As the body of Christ we can reach many more hearts to plant the word.

#Prayerfortoday 4th January
In the name of Jesus. As we sow the word, Elohim, give the increase for it to take root, germinate, grow and bear fruit irrespective of the soil on which it fell. I pray that Almighty will give every christian the heart of a sower - of the word, of good deed, of love, unity, kindness etc. Amen.

I pray this inspires you to be more and do more for Yeshua Ha Mashiach (Jesus Christ).
