But earnestly desire the best gifts.
1 Cor 12:31
Who does not want to manifest spiritual
gifts? We pray earnestly for it. Every time there is an opportunity to be laid
hands on for spiritual impartation, we are the first on the queue.
There is nothing wrong in desiring spiritual gifts. Apostle
Paul encouraged this desire. The question is why do you desire it?
We hear many preachers glory in the fact that they (sometimes
they forget that it is God who actually does it) performed healing and
miracles. They tout it like a CV/resume. Their programme is marketed like a healing Superbowl. They keep records and recount them at the end of the year.
It’s all about them. They grieve the Holy Spirit but fortunately for them, the
gifts and callings of God is without repentance. Nevertheless, whatever a man
sows so he shall reap because God is not mocked.

So why do you desire spiritual gift? Paul taught us that spiritual
gift is the manifestation of the Spirit of God in you, and these are given to
each one for the profit of all (1 Cor 12:7). Your gift must edify the body of
Christ.
Spiritual gifts are not given to you for you but for
others. Covet it to expand the Kingdom of God. Desire it to manifest the power
of the Almighty in the lives of others. Use it to break chains and bondage of
the enemy and set captives free. It is not for personal gain!
Spiritual gifts carry a huge responsibility and God will
hold you to account for how you have used it. Before praying earnestly for it, ask yourself first why do you covet it?
